Brighton Lions Housing Society
Ten years after its formation, Brighton Lions Club purchased a house and converted it into five flats for elderly persons. Impressed with the concept, an anonymous donor gave sufficient funds to erect a block of 12 flats for the elderly, which was opened by the Mayor of Brighton in 1968.
The Club decided that management of the properties would best be handled by a separate limited company and Brighton Lions Housing Society Ltd was established although it was and still remains an integral part of the Club.
1972 saw the completion of a second block of flats - 18 this time - on a site adjacent to the first block, this further development being partially funded by the sale of the original house. The two blocks together are known as Lions Court.
A few years later the Society had the opportunity to buy another plot of land at a substantial discount to the market price and six bungalows (Lions Gardens) were built in 1976.
